PEOPLE
PEOPLE AT GANNI

Earlier this year we launched a Responsibility Gameplan setting ourselves 44 tangible goals to be reached by 2023 across four main pillars; People, Planet, Product & Prosperity. (Head to our Responsibility Report 2019 to read more). People are at the heart of what we do, but we realise that we have to re-prioritise and work to accelerate our efforts across the company, to do more on diversity and inclusion.

BLACK LIVES MATTER

At GANNI, we stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.

In June, our company and founders donated $100,000 across the below organisations, in support of the fight to end racial injustice.

Black Lives Matter
NAACP
The Loveland Foundation

Alongside our statement and donation back in June, we asked for creators in the Black community to reach out to us to collaborate together. Our aim is to commission new creatives to share across our platforms and diversify our talent pool across all creative projects going forward. If you are interested in getting in touch, please email us at ganni.marketing@ganni.com

We know this is not enough—we must continue to listen, research, and educate ourselves about systematic injustice and state sanctioned violence against Black people globally.

We have a lot of work to do, but we commit to doing better and commit to continued action.

It’s a small start, but the change begins now.

GANNI AND UN WOMEN UK

We’ve partnered with UN Women UK to support women empowerment worldwide and to continue to further our gender equality policies. GANNI has made a pledge by signing up to the UN's Women Empowerment Principles, to strengthen our internal work around Gender Equality moving forward. Working closely with UN Women UK, we will ensure that the bar is set high for our gender equality programme so that we can lead by example and ensure that we do better within the workplace, industry, our community and every company we partner with in the future.

In April, we pledged our first donation of a total of €40,000 in support of @UNWomenUK’s solidarity funds; helping women on the frontlines fighting COVID-19. This amount came from 20% of profits from our GANNI POSTMODERN archive pop-up.

We couldn't have done this without your help, so we wanted to say a HUGE Thank you!

DIVERSITY, GENDER EQUALITY & INCLUSION

We have founded an internal diversity and inclusion working group to create concrete objectives and measurable change internally at GANNI. Our working group has ongoing monthly meetings to keep our focus clear. Since June, as part of our broader commitment to racial equity and inclusion, we’ve taken steps internally to improve including launching an anti-racism library in our head office locations for everyone to help further educate themselves on how to be actively anti-racist. Coming up for the remainder of 2020, we have planned unconscious bias training and anti-racism training with the help and support of The Other Box for team members across retail and our office.

At GANNI, we're cultivating a listening and learning culture and an equitable environment. We're currently conducting our own internal research to obtain transparent information on how diverse our company is alongside gender conformity and non-binary data. Due to GDPR restrictions, it will be optional for our employees to partake in sharing this information, not mandatory and therefore leaves accuracy to be determined.

Once we've conducted and gathered this information, we intend to share it publicly and transparently on GANNI.com and will ensure we include findings in our annual Responsibility Report under our People section.

GANNI is committed to creating a more diverse and inclusive workforce across our Copenhagen, London and US head offices and retail locations. As our company grows, we are intent on building teams that represent a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, cultures and experiences at every level, globally. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to apply.

As part of our diversity and inclusion work we have added + 10 internal action points to our Responsibility Gameplan, these are work in progress, but we will keep prioritising important changes and promise to keep you updated as we finalise new goals.

1) We commit to signing a public charter on diversity & inclusion

2) We will increase our hiring of BIPOC employees across GANNI's global offices

3) All external facing employees will attend unconscious bias training and anti-racist training

4) We will define our language and terms surrounding diversity and inclusion in our internal and external communication

5) Data capture and reporting on BIPOC / GE (employed in Ganni) to inform measuring progress

6) We are committed to representing a balanced mix of people to showcase a diverse array of identities across our marketing and PR content projects.

7) We are curating an external Advisory Board made up of industry experts to support our strategy surrounding People, Planet, Product & Prosperity. We will enroll a Social Responsibility representative to be included in our Responsibility Advisory Board. The board will include members with an expertise and stong voice on diversity and inclusion.

8) We will Implement people policies and procedures to accelerate diversity & inclusion

9) We will onboard new employee tools such as All Voices to ensure our employee’s voices are heard frequently and in an anonymous capacity

10) We will set up a GANNI Library across all offices (physical and digital, through Audio books) for our employees to learn and continue educating themselves on how to actively be anti-racist.

OUR COMMUNITY

#GANNIGIRLS is not one uniform persona or gender – it’s about all the people we meet who inspire us and their kick-ass energy and way of being. GANNI Girls is a state of mind, an attitude more than a way of dressing – it’s plural, everyone is welcome.

We are actively working on making our community of #gannigirls on Instagram much more inclusive as well as being a movement of people whose personal style is a form of self-expression – confident and free.

LGBTQ COMMUNITY

At GANNI, we support the transgender and gender non-conforming, LGBTQ community and the protection of the Transgender community. In July 2020, we collaborated with friend and New York based artist and activist, Richie Shazam in support of Black trans lives

We are currently selling 2 of Richie’s amazing photographic prints on GANNI.com in the U.S, where 100% of the profits will be donated across two non-profit organizations The Marsha P. Johnson Institute @MPJInstitute and For The Gworls @forthegworls

Conservation International

The Clean Cooking Alliance Clean Cookstoves project
Since 2016, we have funded the installment of 2.250 Clean Cookstoves in Ghana and Nepal, which help reduce lung diseases amongst women and children as well as saving time and money for households, furthering the possibility for women and children to go to school and work.

Friendship ongoing relationship supporting their efforts to work together with vulnerable people in remote communities in Bangladesh to help them transform their lives.

Educate Girls supporting their efforts to ensure higher enrolment and attendance for girls as well as improved learning outcomes for all children in India’s rural areas.

Nordic Designers Aid in Denmark https://nordicdesignersaid.com/en/about-us/, a Danish, volunteer-based, not-for-profit organisation with a mission to create less waste within the Scandinavian fashion industry and ensure equal opportunities for girls in South Africa. We work together with NDA and donate surplus stock and sample collections. NDA then ship the surplus clothes from Denmark to South Africa and host local fundraising events called Fashion Fundraisers, where they sell the clothes – and donate all profit to civil society programs focusing on teaching business skill to women in South Africa’s Western Province. The overall goal of these programs are to lift girls out of poverty, and to empower them to reach their full potential.

UN GLOBAL COMPACT

These 10 Guiding Principles are the foundation of our Code of Conduct.

MODEL WELFARE

We signed Danish Fashion Ethical Charter to ensure we treat models with dignity and respect by regulating on health checks, wages and age of models.

RESPONSIBILITY AMBASSADORS CULTURE PROGRAMME

We have 20+ employees and counting across all departments, in London, Copenhagen & New York offices.

Our Copenhagen Responsibility Ambassadors organize a bunch of awareness raising activities across our Copenhagen, London and New York offices, including panel talks, Plastic Free July and encouraging team members to partake in global climate strikes..

FOOD

FOOD Our lunch is seasonal & 100% vegetarian & we have organic fruit at the office. We have a take home policy to avoid food waste.

MUSHROOMS

It’s not going to save the world, but we grow mushrooms from waste coffee grounds for employees to take home & cook. Zero waste coffee is a way of helping our team think about how waste can be a resource.

GANNI EMPLOYEE FLEA MARKET EVENT

We also started a small internal flea market in our Copenhagen Office to encourage reuse, and consumption of second hand clothing.

REUSABLE WATER BOTTLES

Our London and New York Responsibility Ambassadors created GANNI reusable water bottles for all staff. We thought about having these for our Copenhagen office, but realised employees weren’t using disposable water bottles and didn’t want to create something just for the sake of it. Our Copenhagen team on the other hand love their morning coffee fix and we’ve seen a rise in disposable coffee cups in the office, so we will be creating reusable coffee cups for staff.

COMMUNITY EVENTS

Last year, we took our ‘Cold Facts’ project to Copenhagen during the Fashion Summit in May 2019 and organized a beach clean-up at Rockaway Beach, NYC. We spent a day volunteering at the Elizabeth Street Garden in SoHo and cleaned up the garden before they planted new flowers for spring. We regularly partake in green days to help have a positive impact and lend a hand in our local communities.

GLOBAL CLIMATE STRIKE

In 2019, we closed our Copenhagen stores so staff could participate in the global climate strikes, and also supported any employees in our Copenhagen, London and NYC offices participating. We wanted politicians to see it's not just citizens demanding real leadership, but businesses also want them to level out the playing field, to legislate, tax, and incentivise companies to do business more responsibility.
