By 2050 the oceans could contain more plastic than fish. That's just wrong. As a signatory of New Plastics Economy Global Commitment we pledge to work towards 100% reusable, recyclable, or compostable plastic packaging by 2025.
We work to eliminate the plastic items we don’t need; Innovate so all plastic we do need is designed to be safely reused, recycled or composted; and circulate everything we use to keep it in the economy and out of the environment.
Read our Plastic Progress Report 2020 to find out more about our current plastic initiatives and future goals.
We're a signatory of the UNFCCC committing to 30% reduction of CO2 per kg of clothing by 2030. We're aiming to achieve this early, by 2023. We've also committed to net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050 and hope to get there sooner.
We’re committed to not working with Tier 1 or 2 suppliers that use coal generated heat or energy by 2025 in line with UNFCCC.
Since 2016 we have been mapping the CO2 footprint of our entire value chain. We work with a third party to carbon compensate our clothing by supporting UN approved clean energy projects. This is not about paying to pollute, we see this as imposing a carbon tax on ourselves, one that politicians are yet to introduce.
We strive to be more responsible with every store we open and championing smaller businesses who keep responsibility in mind.
As part of the store interiors we use:
Recycled plastic podiums by SMILE PLASTICS, that are 100% recycled and 100% recyclable. We love their rainbow terrazzo designs
Our bases, displays and stool seats are created from scrap plastic leftovers by STABILDESIGN, as part of their SCRAPLIFE project
We use repurposed vintage, second-hand stools from ARTEK
Decorate our stores with vases upcycled from single-use plastic containers by Danish artists Oliver Sundqvist and Frederik Nystrup Larsen
Our wooden store floors come from a sustainable forest supply and a zero waste wood flooring manufacturer – Kährs Wood.
Our in-store accessories displays are made by Really Kvadrat from old pressed fabrics. Our rugs in stores are made from fabrics from previous collection GANNI fabrics
LED Lighting in all GANNI stores and offices.
We have trash sorting systems at our Copenhagen, London and New York HQ for paper, biowaste, plastic and regular waste.
We think before we print, but when we really have to, we only use paper that is FSC certified, carbon neutral, 100% degradable & totally chlorine free. We don't print campaigns, lookbooks and our accounting system is 100% digital. All style setups in the design phase are sent out digitally.
We use FSC Certified hang tags on all GANNI garments.
