Our canvas totes are both, which is where the confusion comes from. Canvas is the material, a tightly woven cotton. A tote is the shape, an open top with two handles. So a canvas bag can be any shape, and a tote can be made in something else entirely, like the Posey Bag in recycled leather.

Our XXL and Medium Canvas Tote Bags are the textbook version: an open top, two handles long enough to sit on the shoulder and a body roomy enough for the day. That is the whole definition, and it says nothing about material, which is why the Posey Bag in recycled leather qualifies just as much as a printed canvas one.
