If I had one word to describe Spring/Summer 2016 it would be optimism. I found sunshine yellow creeping into everything I was designing. I think the collection has the openness and laidback attitude you find in LA – that way of dressing that’s very relaxed and comfortable on the body, yet super sexy and glamorous at the same time. And of course we’ve added our Ganni staples – cool dungarees and jackets that will see you from spring right through to fall.”

This season finds the Ganni woman upbeat and carefree, enjoying long, hazy days in the sun. As the brand expands into North America, creative director Ditte Reffstrup has been spending more time in the US. She says she was captivated by the relaxed vibe of West Coast dressing, epitomized by the collection’s spin on cool-girl surf style – an oversized black boyfriend shirt with a yellow-rose print worn over shorts. A sateen camisole and matching wide-legged trousers in champagne sateen combine old Hollywood glamour with the kind of chic you might see poolside today at the Chateau Marmont.

According to Ditte, it was Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Romeo + Juliet’ that inspired the collection – seen on everything from prints to relaxed silk dresses. Ditte has also reworked the two-piece trouser suit into something more modern and fresh looking for Spring/Summer 2016, with a sleeveless jacket and fluid silhouette. This season’s trousers are cut into ankle-grazing flares, while Ganni’s bestselling overalls come perfectly proportioned with a looser fit in light camel.

To match the optimistic vibe of the collection, Ganni present the new collection next to a sunflow- er-coloured installations in paper at The Factory of Art and Design in Copenhagen. The beautiful setting is inspired by artist Jean-François Boclé’s metaphorical artworks.
