Ganni Pre Spring 2017 - Love and Science
“I’ve been thinking a lot about the interplay of love and science recently, especially that moment in the late 80s and early 90s, just before the internet took off. There was such an air of excited innocence about the future. I wanted to embrace that dreamy, transitional mood in the pre spring collection, of girls and boys hanging out in diners and arcades, or sitting in the library, staring out of the window and waiting for something to happen..”
- Ditte Reffstrup, Creative Director, Ganni
This season sees the Ganni woman channel her inner adolescent, taking her cue from the tribes of offbeat kids who roamed the hallways of American colleges in the late 80s and early 90s, but with a modern, adult twist. Ditte Reffstrup has been decoding Ganni’s mix-and-match DNA, amplifying contrasts and putting things together in surprising ways for a luxurious take on thrift-store chic. Think nightwear as outerwear, with roomy pyjama-style trousers in a sumptuous blue and biscuit-coloured woven viscose jacquard, but worn with nude colored high-top boots and a soft wool jacket; or a figure-hugging golden sports suit unexpectedly paired with a leopard-print roll neck.
There’s a beguiling clash of prints and fabrics, including a wine-coloured tiger jacquard, embroidered flowers on fine black mesh trousers, and delicate sequins overlaying a navy polka dot shirt. There’s a retro sci-fi vibe too, from shimmering glam-luxe boots to a t-shirt bearing the image of a milkshake from a space-themed diner. Silhouettes evoke the structure of school uniforms but also the fluid lines of at-home leisurewear, for an effortlessly youthful collection.
